History
The CIC was created in February 1995 as the result of an agreement between the INSERM and the Nancy University Hospital and Medical Center. Work to install offices and equipment on the premises of the Jeanne d'Arc Hospital began immediately thereafter and was completed in August 1995.
The request for approval as a research facility was filed in May 1995. Official approval was awarded on October 17, 1995.
Recruitment of personnel began in May 1995 with one full-time secretary and one full-time nurse.
The extensive medical equipment provided by the research budgets of the coordinating physician and the investigating physician were available at the CIC facilities in August 1995.
From May 1995 to October 1995, prior to official approval as a research facility, the main activities of the CIC were to organize the team and provide the personnel with training in Good Clinical Practices, conditions for protecting persons participating in biomedical research, and data processing procedures. During this same period, the budgeting procedures were studied with the UHMC and the INSERM. Safety procedures were also developed and implemented. The UHMC clinical departments, the INSERM units and several pharmaceutical industry laboratories were informed of the creation of the CIC with a promotional brochure specially designed for the Nancy CIC and widely distributed to potential partners. The CIC held several Open Doors days for UHMC clinicians and INSERM researchers and a large number of personal contacts were made with the members of the UHMC's Medical Commission and Clinical Research Commission and with the members of the Faculty Board and the University Board.
The CIC Technical Committee was established and several project protocols were finalized at its first meeting held on July 5, 1995. Finally, during this period prior to official approval, clinical research with direct individual benefit which had been undertaken earlier within the respective clinics of the coordinating physician and delegate physician were continued with CIC personnel.
The CIC's own investigations began in late October 1995.
